This past Christmas of 2019, my wife and I went to Colorado to visit one of our daughters and her family who live in Longmont. Two of our other children and their families also joined us. We ended up house sitting and dog sitting for one of our nephews who live in an adjacent town of Lyons.
While there we would take the dog over for walks. Lyons is on the edge of the Estes mountain area and it is quite picturesque. One day we took the dogs over to the dog park nearby for exercise. As we were finishing that, my two grandsons wanted to go to the playground which was right near the dog park. As we were walking over, my daughter started to yell to me that I needed to see something. As I caught up with her, she pointed to something behind a grove of trees.
And there it was.... this old dilapidated barn with perhaps an even more dilapidated old truck sticking out the barns front door. It was a scene that was too good to ignore and I took numerous photos of it . This painting captures the best of what I photographed that day. There is a lot going on in this painting. A few challenges I gladly took on. What struck me humorously among the rough rural nature of the barn and the out buildings, was the red barrel next to the truck which had this smiley face painted on it. It makes me smile every time I look at it!
